WHAT THE HALAL?

COUNTLESS MEXICAN CUISINE OPTIONS IN THE BAY, BUT FOR MANY FAITH-BASED COMMUNITIES, OPTIONS ARE LIMITED.

Halal or “permissible” in Arabic refers to the dietary law of Islam, which practicing Muslims follow. Like Kosher for Jewish people, Halal food avoids anything derived from swine flesh (pork, bacon, lard, gelatin, etc.) as well as alcohol. Animals considered Halal include chicken, beef, lamb, goat, turkey, deer, and most seafood.

For meat to be considered Halal the animal must be slaughtered quick and painlessly while a Muslim recites a prayer.
